This Misbar proposal was made for the cobble stone paved square directly around the national monument at Monas in the centre of Jakarta. As this area is heavily used by visitors, street sellers, baskers and so forth, it felt appropriate to create a clear separation between the spaces of the cinema and the surrounding areas. Similarly to traditional Indonesian long houses the building was placed on stilts and raised one storey above ground. Besides creating a more secluded, calmer foyer area, this move also provided visitors a unique perspective on the busy square.
